Rotavirus

What is it?

Rotavirus is a virus that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and fever.

Rotavirus spreads when people consume contaminated food or put their fingers in their mouth after touching contaminated surfaces. This contamination is often caused by infected feces (poop).

This disease can be very severe and require hospitalization. There is no specific treatment for rotavirus infection.

The vaccine protects against 90% of severe disease and 70% of all rotavirus infections.

Vaccine Options:

What's the difference between them?

Rotarix is 2 doses at 2 months and 4 months
Rotateq is 3 doses at 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months

Unlike most other vaccines, both Rotarix and Rotateq are given orally (by mouth) instead of as an injection.
